“THE NIGHT BAND”

Late nights, early 70s.

Somewhere past midnight, when the stations start to thin out and the signal gets soft, radios like the Nobility X 100KC AM Radio were never really silent.

You just had to know where to tune.

Most people heard static.

A few heard something else.

A voice, maybe. Music that didn’t match any station ID. Conversations that sounded like they were already in progress. Not loud. Not clear.

But consistent.

Always just past the edge of the dial.

They called it the night band.

No frequency. No listing. No official broadcast.

Just something that showed up when the rest of the world signed off.

Some said it was bleed from distant stations.

Others said it was equipment picking up stray signals bouncing off the atmosphere.

But the strange part wasn’t what you heard.

It was how long it stayed with you after.

People who listened long enough started to recognize patterns.

Familiar phrases. Repeating melodies. Moments that felt less like radio… and more like memory.

Most radios lost it over time.

Components drifted. Signals faded. Whatever was there stopped coming through.

But every now and then, one still picks it up.

Not all the time.

Not on command.

Just when the conditions are right.

This one’s been brought back online.

Modern Bluetooth, clean power, reliable sound.

But the dial is still there.

And sometimes, late enough at night—

It still lands on something.
